Sustainability commitments

Nomadory is a 100% South Asian women and minority owned business that partners with suppliers in India to create handmade custom rugs. Our sustainability pillars reflected below are a set of commitments that we and our suppliers are expected to adhere to.

Transparency

Transparency

We partner with our various supplier partners to fully map out our product supply chain to understand the following:

  • Where geographically in India our products are made
  • Who (men/women) is making our products
  • What fibers and dyes are incorporated to make our products
  • Where the fibers and other raw materials originate from

In turn we expect our suppliers to keep us abreast of any updates/changes that have been made to our supply chain.

Human Rights

Human Rights

During our supplier onboarding process, we require all of our supplier partners to sign the Nomadory Code of Conduct.  The code of conduct outlines all social and environmental compliance criteria we  expect our suppliers to follow.  The criteria is based on ILO labor standards and incorporates aspects related to forced labor, working hours/wages, chemical use and waste management.

We only partner with suppliers that have undergone 3rd party social compliance and labor assessments and that are committed to making continuous improvements over the course of time.  After 5 years of diligently working behind the scenes we are now on track to align with Goal 8 of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.   We take pride in protecting labor rights, promoting safe working environments and providing decent work to both men and women.

Responsible Material

Responsible Material

We are committed to utilizing low impact and natural fibers in our products.  We stray away from the use of polypropylene, viscose, nylon and polyester and aim to push forward the use of preferred fibers such as recycled materials and alternatives such as recycled polyester, Econyl & Tencel.  Where possible and based on certain client specific designs we always recommended the use of natural undyed materials to reduce water consumption.

We are excited to say that this year we are on track to align with Goal 12 of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.  We continuously strive to work with our suppliers to responsibly manage chemicals and excess material in addition to finding ways to reduce and reuse waste.

Craftmanship

Craftmanship

We proudly work to preserve the handmade rug industry in India.  By working with skilled women and men weavers, who embody impeccable craftsmanship and deliver high quality products, we showcase that traditional methods of manufacturing are worth preserving.

Not only does preserving the craftsmanship allow tradition of weaving to be passed down from generation to generation, but it also provides livelihood and income to the thousands of artisans that still practice the craft.
